Hello and thank you for your interest in Your Relationship Minute. I'm a psychotherapist specializing in Collaborative Couple Therapy as originated by my mentor, Dan Wile, Ph.D. From 2013 until Dan's death in 2020 I regularly traveled to Dan's home in Oakland, California as a participant in his monthly training group. Much of the content in my videos is expressly my understanding of Dan's teaching, but also content from my father, H.D. Johns, Ph.D. (my first psychotherapy mentor), and from my 30+ years of practice experience including Existential Psychotherapy and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. I also draw from Buddhist Psychology as a zen practitioner since 2002.
I earned my Master of Social Work Degree (MSW) in 1992 but I started out in 1983 as a crisis phone line volunteer. Over the years I've served homeless folks of all ages, inpatient psychiatric patients, runaway teens, adults working towards post-hospitalization independence, middle school students and their families, and teen parents. I started my private therapy practice with individuals and families in 1998 and since 2014 I work only with couples.
Your Relationship Minute videos and podcast provides tools and insights for navigating all relationships with a focus on marital and domestic partnerships. Underlying everything, however, is an emphasis on understanding your most important relationship: the one with yourself. I wish you every success.
